Why We Do What We Do
Before rambling about technology I think it is important to consider why this really matters. The goal here is not to give a reason for Christian education or technology in education but some basic thoughts on how we see technology at DCHS.
The easiest way to look at it is how I often hear our Principal, Scott Kemerling, explain our the things we do to visitors. While I’m showing them the latest app on an iPhone he’ll remind them that “it is just a better pencil.” Technology is a tool and makes the learning process better. We look for technology that has a very short learning curve so it quickly becomes a better pencil in the hands of the teachers and students.
Here are a couple selections from our technology plan that I think help explain why we do what we do:
The mission of the Delmarva Christian High School (DCHS) is to prepare students academically, physically, and spiritually to know and accomplish God’s will for their lives.
To this end, the technology program will give short and long-range guidance as to the use of leading edge technology to ensure students are educated with the tools necessary for accomplishing God’s will for their lives in the world of work or in post-secondary education. Additionally, the technology program will provide guidance as to how staff will gain the necessary skills required to use technology to its fullest advantage in teaching students and carrying out job-related functions.
The vision of the technology program at DCHS is that all efforts expended will ultimately prepare the students to accomplish God’s will for their lives. The following pyramid will be used when evaluating the school’s technology program to ensure that the proper focus is kept on the students.
